I will always be supportive of the creation of job and growth for the Borough but do understand the importance of lorry drivers and HGVs not disrupting local residents.

I am aware that fly-parking, where HGVs park in areas not intended for them – such as motorway hard shoulders, rural verges or local streets – is a problem in the area and across the country as a whole. I also understand that lorry drivers rightly have to abide by strict rules as to how long they can drive between breaks, and if there is no formal parking available, drivers stop where they can, resulting in fly-parking.

I believe there have been shortcomings in the Government’s handling of the road haulage sector and I agree that there needs to be small, cost-effective parking facilities in several locations across, as well as across the country. Furthermore, I am concerned about the amenities available to drivers. I agree that more truck stops, with better facilities would tackle fly-parking, improve the lives of local residents, and help hard-pressed lorry drivers.
