It’s shocking to see apprenticeship starts in St Helens North drop by nearly half over the last five years.

Unacceptably, it means we’ve seen a sharper fall here than in the rest of England – and the North West too.

As skills, training and opportunities become key to fighting this jobs crisis, young people in our borough are being punished for years of failed Tory policies, missed targets and broken promises.

Ministers must urgently shape up before more damage is done.
