Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is an attack on democracy and a grave violation of international law.

Putin has brought war to Europe. He has attacked a sovereign country and is killing its citizens. He cynically seeks to weaken and divide the West.

This is a dangerous moment and our response must be hard, fast and united. We should help Ukraine defend itself, introduce the toughest sanctions against Putin’s tyrannical regime, and reinforce our NATO allies in Eastern Europe and beyond.

Commenting to the St Helens Star, Conor McGinn, MP for St Helens North, said: 

“Putin’s unprovoked and unjustifiable attack on Ukraine is an attack on democracy and a clear violation of international law. Our response to it must be hard, swift and totally united.

“Labour stands shoulder to shoulder with our NATO and western allies in support of Ukraine and the hardest possible sanctions against Putin’s tyrannical regime.

“It is critical that all political parties here in the UK must be united on facing down this unacceptable and reprehensible Russian aggression.”
